Hi, I'm Michelle.
Founder of Virtual Hand Care and the Virtual Practice Startup program
Michelle Coil is an Occupational Therapist and Certified Hand Therapist. She has her Masters of Occupational Therapy from the Medical College of Ohio, now known as the University of Toledo Medical School. She has spent 15 years in clinical practice in the areas of upper extremity orthopedic rehabilitation.
She has been researching the field of telehealth for over 5 years and has been exclusively working in telehealth since 2018. She is the founder of Virtual Hand Care, LLC, a teletherapy platform providing consulting and hand therapy services for clients with UE injuries. She is passionate about the promotion of hand therapy and has created the Hand Nerds Facebook group to assist with mentoring clinicians.
Michelle compliments her clinical work with additional certifications as an Ergonomic Assessment Specialist and Professional Yoga Therapist. She is an ASHT member and recently presented on Introduction to Hand Teletherapy at the 2019 ASHT meeting in Washington D.C.
In 2018, I took the plunge and started the first teletherapy practice owned and operated by a OT, CHT. Through Virtual Hand Care, I have seen first hand how beneficial telehealth can be for both the client and the therapist. My goal with this course is to arm you with all the information and resources you need to determine if telehealth is right for you.
The concept of telehealth is not new however, like most things in the medical field it takes FOREVER to become mainstream. Talk to your neighbor, they have no idea what telehealth is. Right? It is not the first thing that pops into someones mind when they think of going to therapy. We have a long way to go but I am so happy to have you here on this WILD ride! Let’s keep the momentum going.
It is our time. As Certified Hand Therapists, we have a chance to reach more people in need, raise awareness of our specialty, and finally be known as the experts we are in upper extremity care. Through telehealth, we can collaborate with other healthcare professionals and build relationships beyond borders.
